The son of Grammy-winning R&B singer Usher nearly drowned in an Atlanta pool and was in the hospital Tuesday, authorities said.
Five-year-old Usher Raymond V on Monday fell to the bottom of pool behind a home downtown and became stuck in the drain, according to Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos’ report.
A housekeeper tried to get to the boy, but was unable to free him from the drain, Campos said. Two men who were working at the home as audio-visual subcontractors were called to help.
The boy was eventually pulled from the pool, and given CPR by one of the contractors.
Campos said the boy was “conscious, alert and breathing” when paramedics arrived before 4 p.m. He was at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite.
Usher Raymond V is one of two sons of Usher and Tameka Foster, who divorced two years after getting married in 2007. The singer went through a long legal fight with his ex-wife and was awarded primary physical custody of his two sons last year.
The near drowning of the singer’s son comes nearly a year after Foster’s 11-year-old son, Kile Glover, died after being critically injured in a boating accident. The boy, who was the stepson of Usher, was run over by a personal watercraft on Lake Lanier northeast of Atlanta
US sprinter and the world’s second fastest man, Tyson Gay, has tested positive for banned substances and has pulled out of next month’s World Championships in Moscow.
Gay, 30, said he was notified by the US Anti-Doping Agency on Friday that his ‘A’ sample from an out-of-competition test in May had returned a positive.
Gay didn’t reveal the substance in a phone conversation from Amsterdam on Sunday but said:
“I don’t have a sabotage story. I don’t have any lies. I don’t have anything to say to make this seem like it was a mistake or it was on USADA’s hands, someone playing games. I don’t have any of those stories. I basically put my trust in someone and I was let down.”
Akon took to his Instagram page immediately after the ‘not guilty’ verdict in the George Zimmerman trial and suggested that African Americans move back to Africa. He wrote:
Every African American in the United States need to move their money, family, knowledge back to Africa were u will be treated like the royalty you are. You don’t deserve this treatment. This is not your country!!

Cory Monteith, who played the adorable Finn Hudson on ‘Glee,’ was found dead on Saturday (July 13) in his hotel room in Vancouver, Canada at the age of 31.
According to sources, Monteith was found unresponsive and alone by staffers at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel. The cause of death is unknown at this time, but the police have already ruled out foul play. Monteith was in his room the night before, hanging out with some friends before they all went out, but he had come back early Saturday morning alone.
The ‘Glee’ star voluntarily entered rehab back in April to address previous struggles with substance abuse. In a 2011 interview, he told Parade Magazine he began using drugs when he was just 13 and even sought treatment when he was 19 after his mother and close friends orchestrated an intervention.
“I don’t want kids to think it’s okay to drop out of school and get high, and they’ll be famous actors, too,” he stated in 2011. “But for those people who might give up: Get real about what you want and go after it.”
Monteith was dating ‘Glee’ co-star Lea Michele offscreen, who was always by his side, even during his rehab stint. When he was admitted, she told PEOPLE, “I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this. I am grateful and proud he made this decision.” She has not responded yet to the news.
The last we heard of Monteith, he had finished his rehab stint on April 26. He was also working on several films (All the Wrong Reasons’ and ‘McCanick’), which may have been in post-production.
20th Century Fox Television and Fox Broadcasting company released a joint statement that reads:
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.”
So far there has been an outpour of tweets about the late actor, from co-star Dot-Marie Jones and peers like The Wanted, Nick Jonas, Rihanna, Demi Lovato, and Taylor Swift, among others.

We can authoritatively inform that governor of Rivers States; Rotimi Amaechi has donated the sum of $100,000 over N15.5m to rescue the ailing music producer, OJB Jezreel. The move was made by Jazzman Olofin, who was said to have visited Mr. Femi Davies, a top journalist and online publisher to complain about the way the people around are treating the issue of the prolific producer/singer.
Miffed by the report given, Femi Davies, we were told, intensified effort to liaise with another top journalist, Mr. Wale Olaleye, This Day Political Editor and he was said to have asked Mr. Davies to come forth with a formal letter of request to be forwarded to Governor Amaechi. As soon as the letter got to the embattled governor, we gathered that he signed it and ordered the state to pay as soon as possible.
Though, there seem to be some rancor between the people in charge of the ‘Support OJB Team’ as some people are already deliberating on how to have their share of the money as soon as it arrives since Governor Amaechi has coughed out the whole money needed for the kidney transplant and there were previous donations close to N10m before now.
This is really amazing, despite the situation of things between him and some political elements in PDP, governor Amaechi surprised all and sundry as he made this whopping donation. What a man with a heart of gold!
We hope the government of the good-hearted man, Mr. Amaechi would speedily attend to this cause before it’s too late like what happened in Edo State recently when a civil servant who needed just N150,000 had to lose his life because the money was not speedily disbursed as authorized by the governor.
Rapper 50 Cent has been charged with domestic violence after he allegedly kicked the mother of his son and destroyed property in her condo last month.
According to TMZ:
50 is accused of causing $7,100 in damage during the June 23 incident, which took place inside the victim’s condo in Toluca Lake, Ca. According to officials, LAPD officers were called to the scene … and the woman told cops she had gotten into an altercation with 50 and locked herself in the bedroom.
50 — real name Curtis Jackson — allegedly got so mad, he kicked down the door and kicked her, resulting in an injury. Officials say the 37-year-old rapper is also accused of breaking chandeliers, furniture, a TV and a lamp — and allegedly ransacked the bedroom closet — during his rampage.
Officials say 50 left the scene before cops arrived. Now he’s being hit with five charges – one count misdemeanor domestic violence and four counts of misdemeanor vandalism and if convicted on all counts, he could face up to five years in jail and $46,000 in fines. Damn homie! He’s due in court to be arraigned on July 22, so we’ll keep you updated.

The relationship between Wizkid and R2Bees is so solid that a lot of fans are wondering if it was the reason he refused performing with Samini at the third edition of Ghana Meets Naija, the group R2Bees who recently travelled to Los Angeles for the 2013 BET Awards and Samini are currently not seeing eye to eye, making the assumption between Wizkid and Samini sort of true.
Ghana Meets Naija that took place in Ghana on June 30 would have ended without drama if Wizkid had allowed Samini to partner him in their hit single, ‘Time Bomb’, a track on Samini’s upcoming album, the reason for the beef between R2Bees and Samini is yet to be ascertain and for Wizkid to get involved means it is a serious matter.
Bola Ray even went back stage to talk to Wizkid and his manager about it but they refused to perform with Samini. said a source. Bola Ray is the organizer of the show, he tried to convince Wizkid to perform with Samini but his advice fell on deaf ears.
What could have caused this cross country’s beef between Samini and Wizkid?
